HOW TO PREPARE GOOD UGANDAN PILAU?

Easy steps to prepare Ugandan  pilau rice.

Pilau is a traditional beautiful fragrant rice dish made with many aromatic spices that adds an amazing depth of flavor to the rice. In Uganda, it can be made with either beef or chicken.

Pilau in Uganda is a festive dish never missing on table during festive events like Christmas, iddi celebrations, on parties among many others.

However, it should be noted that Unlike the Indian pilau, Ugandan pilau is usually less spicy mixed up with beef or chicken. Therefore With the right combination of spices, you can turn plain rice into  Pilau while following the steps below.

But first you will need the following to cook a fantastic dish of pilau; rice, beef/chicken, pilau masala, onions, garlic, ginger, bay leaves, salt water and cilantro 

Having gathered the items above, follow these simple steps to prepare a delicious pilau dish.

1. Toast and blend the pilau masala in a medium saucepan.

 2. Brown the onions by frying it in oil until it caramelizes.  

3. Stir in the Garlic, ginger and serrano pepper.

4.Add the meat stock cubes, pilau masala, cilantro, bay leaves, and salt to add a taste 

4. After that brown the meat by coking it to turn brown

5. Stir in the tomatoes and cook till it dissolves. 

6. Add water and bring everything to a rolling boil and leave it to cook for about 10 minutes.

7. Stir in the rice then cover tightly to help keep the steam in. 

8. Cook until the rice is ready and once it is ready, serve your delicious meal of pilau.
